We are all weak souls. Even when you think you’re strong, you’re vulnerable. Weight loss goals held tightly tend to slip now and again. At some point down the road of your diet program, you will eat foods that are not recommended, or skip a workout or two, or three when life throws you a curve ball and something unplanned occurs.

This is where you test your mettle, your desire for a healthy, thinner body. This is your diet challenge. Can you climb back on that horse immediately? Do you have what it takes, or will you slide down the slippery slope into the treacherous, weight gain waters, again.

Statistics show you’ll probably slip. In fact, you’ll go back to your old routine instead of pushing through and getting back on track, which would make your previous efforts null and void. It happens quickly. You don’t have much of a window, not much time when you’re on fragile weight loss ground to begin with.

The “all or nothing” method of dieting is what makes most people fail in losing weight. Strictly structured programs are certainly a factor of diet failure. But it isn’t just the program. People are wound so tight with life and responsibilities, in general, that one small misstep could spell diet doom in an instant!

The clear solution is to start a weight loss program with proper understanding that you will experience recurrent setbacks and will miss some workouts or fail to maintain the recommended diet (at times). Your commitment to the program will allow you to return to the right track the moment that you realize that you’ve suffered a setback.

It does not mean you have to go back to square one.

This is more acceptable way to reach your goal of permanent weight loss. Experiencing setbacks does not mean you’ve failed. It means you’re human. It means you’re just like the next person. A perfect weight loss scenario does not exist, no matter how many infomercials that try to convince you otherwise.

In fact, even if you did reach your desired weight without encountering any setbacks, it would take several setbacks (at that point) to ultimately realize if you were (or were not) going to be able to keep your newfound shape. Reason being, adversity shapes who you are. Life is a test, and without tests you don’t get stronger, you don’t improve. Without adversity you cannot grow.

These tests are necessary. They must be embraced. Knowing this, you should welcome the challenge and when you are thrown off your weight loss course, you should stop and say, “Okay, this is where I make my progress. This is where I grow. This is the moment I’ve been waiting for.”

Unfortunately, most people don’t. Most people hide from those moments, and by hiding they cheat themselves out of a golden opportunity to move forward, not just in their weight loss efforts, but as a person.

Weight loss is a game of wits. It has twists and turns. The more prepared you are for those unexpected turns, the better your chance of winning the game
